We recently hosted a special 'Take Your Partners with Pride' event for LGBT groups in Edinburgh, including a screening of Siri Rødnes' new film Take Your Partners.
Working in partnership with LGBT Youth (Scotland) and production company Arpeggio Pictures, this special event for Gay Straight Alliance/LGBT groups in Edinburgh boasted a screening of local filmmaker Siri Rødnes' new short film ahead of a showing of recent classic Pride.
Take Your Partners is a semi-autobiographical film by Rødnes that chronicles the story of Ollie, who loves to play football, run, fight and climb trees - just like any other eight-year-old boy. Only, Ollie isn't a boy at all. And nor will she ever be the girl that convention expects of her.
Take Your Partners is a bold, yet nuanced piece that looks at the story of a young girl growing up in Scotland struggling to conform to gender expectations. To me this piece isn't saying that Ollie is gay, it's saying something about the world in which we live.

After the screening of Take Your Partners, we held a Q&A session with Siri Rødnes and one of the film's producers, Stuart Condy, which was chaired by our Scottish reporter Kaylum, giving the young people present the chance to ask questions and further explore the themes of the film.
Following the Q&A session, a screening of the wonderfully life-affirming Pride took place, as young people got to enjoy what is fast becoming a modern British classic.
We're proud to have been able to support Gay Straight Aliance groups and bring people together for this great celebration of LGBT films.
