Into Film Clubs
Find out everything you need to know about starting an Into Film Club.
We're delighted and proud to announce the launch of Teaching Literacy Through Film, our brand new online learning course for Primary teachers. This free course is the first to be housed on our new learning platform, and features downloadable lesson resources containing film highlights and activity sheets, and is supplemented by complementary optional webinars that are available before and during the course.
The course provides access to tried, tested and fun ways of introducing and using film to teach literacy and make a lasting impact on pupils' literacy skills. Use film to help your learners develop key literacy skills that are transferable to written texts and can support literacy work across the curriculum, as well as improving speaking, listening, comprehension and writing attainment. You'll learn to use film texts as an exciting and accessible tool to support learning and level the playing field among all learners and achieve a wide range of effective learning outcomes in the classroom.
Teaching Literacy Through Film consists of 8 modules, each of which take around 30 minutes to complete, the course will run over a six-week period and will be moderated throughout.
Free for all state schools, all you need to take the course is an Into Film Account, which is free and only takes a moment to set up.
Teaching Literacy Through Film is designed with short modules to make it easy to fit around a busy school schedule, and you can dive into specific modules that suit the needs of your class, or follow the entire learning journey. Each module comes with downloadable curriculum-linked resources that can be used in the classroom or during periods of home learning. There are also optional webinars that will run in support of the course, and you'll have the opportunity to share your experiences and resources with fellow educators on the course.
Teaching Literacy Through Film also contains an additional course to be suggested for senior leaders called Leading Whole School Change Through Film. This extra micro-course will guide teachers and senior leaders to go deeper in integrating film for literacy across the whole school for a wide range of benefits, and encourages senior education leaders and teachers to create a powerful ‘action research project' in their school or classroom.
Teaching Literacy Through Film is based on 6 years of research into teaching literacy through film by Into Film and partners including the BFI, Bradford Media Literacy, and Paul Hamlyn Foundation - as well as a range of teachers and senior leaders.
