Set in Victorian England but told with a modern sensibility, this version of Charles Dickens' much-loved novel stars Dev Patel in the title role as David Copperfield, chronicling his journey from childhood into adulthood.
After he is sent to work in a bottle factory by his mother's new husband, the miserly and abusive Mr Murdstone, David discovers his love for language and resolves to become a writer. Escaping into the wider world, he meets a host of peculiar and wonderful characters including his outlandish aunt, Betsey Trotwood, and the cunning and singular Uriah Heep. Made with a diverse British cast, this broad and charming comedy from director Armando Ianucci is one of the most accessible and entertaining Dickens adaptations to date.
Based on the best-selling book of the same name, this tale of growing up whilst dealing with grief sees a young man named Theo struggling after the death of his mother during a terrorist attack in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
After witnessing the event, Theo takes the original 17th century Goldfinch painting his mother admired, the canvas representing his complicated feelings about his loss and the difficult situations he finds himself in to deal with his pain. Placed with a wealthy family of an estranged friend, and later becoming involved in art forgery, as well as experiencing first love, this drama is a layered exploration of life's hardships, growing up and key questions around the art industry.
