As the conversation about climate change becomes one of the most prioritised issues in our current society, more people are turning towards art, and specifically film, as a means to express their fears and hopes for the future.

The new animated short ‘The Promise' does something that only animation can do, constructing and visualising a world in which climate change has negatively affected everyone in a dark, murky city sometime in the near future.

However, what ‘The Promise' also does is imagine how we can turn things around by making a promise to ourselves, and to the future, that we will plant the seeds necessary to overcome pollution and global warming.

The short film, directed by Chi Thai and based on the children's book by Nicola Davies, will premiere on the BBC on the morning of October 16th in England and October 26th in Scotland. More information on the film itself can be found at their website here.

Into Film have put together a film guide for any teacher or educator to use as a resource alongside the film if they wish to explore the subject of the environment and climate change with their students.
