Congratulations to Ysgol Cefn Coch, Penrhyndeudraeth, Wales, whose fantastic comedy/thriller Ysbryd (Ghost) has been crowned Best Live Action: 12 and Under at the 2017 Into Film Awards.
In the film, which you can watch above, a school comes under attack from a ghost. Can a ragtag team of pupils in detention come to the rescue?
Ysbryd is an excellent film. It is funny, tense and ambitious with a brilliant cast… The green screen effects are stunning and creative, unbelievable on such a small budget. It is a huge credit to the school and students to achieve this without any external help.

Fantastic special effects, and a deft mix of action and laughs saw Ysbryd (Ghost) meant this Welsh-language submission impressed the judges hugely - not to mention the inclusion of some brilliant outtakes and bloopers! "It feels amazing to win this award because wehaven't been able to do something like this before", said Lois, aged 11, upon receiving the award.
It feels amazing because we've learnt a lot of things by making the film. I would like to make films when I'm older.
Gwenno, 11, Into Film Award winning filmmaker from Wales
The Best Live Action: 12 and Under award was sponsored by Saban's POWER RANGERS, and was presented by actor Eleanor Matsuura and TV presenter Lizo Mzimba, who said: "Film has an incredibly valuable role in education. Film is about storytelling, and seeing that on the screen is a way [young people] can explore that themselves. Whether they want to go into the film industry or not it teaches them about working with technical things, about teamwork, and these are all valuable skills. It's also brilliant fun!"
When I was a kid film helped me to learn more about who I was and who I wanted to be. Any way we can integrate that into the way children learn today is a wonderful thing.
