Story Builder: Games and Story Builder: Games Lite are two exciting resources from our ever-popular suite of ready-to-use Story Builder activity packs.

Developed in consultation with BAFTA and the Family Gaming Database, the resources support young people in creating their own game ideas and narratives, which they can enter into the upcoming BAFTA Young Game Designers competition. For a little extra support, download our Teaching with Games resource and our Games Glossary to explain the benefits of teaching with games and keep you up to date with the right lingo!

Whatever the subject, you can use Story Builder: Games or Story Builder: Games Lite to apply learners' knowledge of game narratives and structure to curricular topics. Young people will develop cross-curricular literacy skills through a tried and tested framework and build stories for games that can have a specific curricular focus or explore narrative writing with a fresh new approach. Learners will create characters, relevant settings, meaningful stories and more, all based on their research and understanding of their subject.

If you'd like to experiment with games in your classroom, why not start with our Playtest form? It's designed to get learners thinking critically about the games they play. It's a great warm-up activity for Story Builder: Games and Games Lite, allowing learners to apply what they've learned to their game design.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"Our SATs results this year were great, both progress and attainment in reading and writing have improved compared with last year, which we feel has been largely as a result of integrating the Into Film strategies."
