Chances are, we've all seen a Hollywood film. Our cinemas are blessed with a never-ending procession of blockbusters, superhero movies, and big-budget spectaculars. And many of them are fantastic, holding valuable messages for young people to learn from, whilst demonstrating the impressive feats that the medium of film can achieve in the modern age.
But the world of film extends far, far beyond just those titles we see plastered on the side of buses and filling up the multiplexes. With our Beyond Hollywood theme, we aim to shine a light on films from around the globe, including world cinema, foreign language film and independent titles, not forgetting those British films that might otherwise fly beneath the radar.
These films tell stories that offer a glimpse at lives and cultures that we might not be overly familiar with, and celebrate the incredible breadth of diversity that exists across the planet. Indeed, it's from many of these films that Hollywood borrows some of its best known ideas from, be they in the form of direct remakes, or by drawing influence.
Our Beyond Hollywood activity will also incorporate both the India @ 70 and BAFTA 70 celebrations, which look to mark the 70th anniversary of both India's independence and BAFTA respectively.
