Synopsis

This long-cherished project for director Martin Scorsese attracted some controversy, particularly before its release, with some commentators being worried that it was blasphemous to present Jesus as a very human figure, given to anxieties and fantasies. But those who actually saw the film could understand that while it may deviate from the Bible's presentation of Christ and is a challenging film, it is also a deeply serious one.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
