Synopsis

When Irish fisherman Syracuse finds a woman in his day's catch, his daughter Annie is certain he's trapped a selkie, a mythical half-woman, half-seal. Ondine is certainly mysterious enough, and when she's doing her strange singing Syracuse finds his nets are suddenly full every time, but could her secret be rather more troubling and a little less magical? This mystically inclined and emotionally charged Irish drama lets us juggle the rational and supernatural explanations of what its characters do.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
