The evolution of animation is beautifully demonstrated in this series of Walt Disney cartoons. Released between 1929 and 1939, and featuring memorable characters from talking cookies to love-struck penguins, these timeless musical shorts were used to train fledgling artists, and test new styles, techniques and technologies. Consequently, innovation abounds, producing such nostalgic delights as Lullaby Land, with its surreal dreamscapes, and the visual gag-filled nature romance, Flowers and Trees (the studio's first use of Technicolor, and one of six Oscar winners contained in this collection). The 30 plus films are fun to watch but packed with fascinating historical relevance, saying as much about the era's social, moral and racial views, as they do about the fast-developing movie industry. Please note; 354 mins refers to the total running time of both DVDs in the collection
