Synopsis

This powerful documentary, made by the charity Camfed, tells a story within a story, as a group of young women in rural small-town Zambia - many of whom are without electricity in their homes, let alone access to video cameras - are given the opportunity to learn how to make a film. The real-life tale they decide to tell is that of Penelop, who was orphaned at the age of ten after her parents died of AIDS. Her sister - left to provide for the family through prostitution - followed the same fate. The strength Penelop summoned to survive is inspiring and reflects hardships suffered by many Africans.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
