Synopsis
It would be hard to imagine a more timely marriage of subject and filmmaker. As the NHS faces the biggest phase of change in its history, the unapologetically left-wing filmmaker Ken Loach reflects on the astounding era that saw its creation. Through archive footage and compelling interviews with those whose lives were transformed by the new welfare state, he records the postwar determination to create a fairer society and the fate of the industries and institutions that were the cornerstones of that ideal. Passionate, illuminating and sure to provoke discussion and debate.
