Synopsis

Hubert is a petulant young writer and artist living in Quebec with his single mother, Chantale. He bickers constantly with her, concealing a blossoming relationship with his boyfriend, and feeling contempt for what he sees as her dowdy tastes and lifestyle. Desperate to escape his suffocating suburban lifestyle, Hubert opens himself up to new experiences, friendships and sexual relationships, all the while increasingly consumed and confused by his relationship with Chantale. This stylish, confident, compassionate film has a sense of adolescent rush that's fitting for a semi-autobiographical film made when Dolan was just 19 years old.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
