Synopsis

Brave hobbit Bilbo Baggins continues his epic adventure in this second instalment of director Peter Jackson's visually inventive fantasy trilogy, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's classic book. Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, Bilbo, the wizard Gandalf, and their companions face a host of new dangers as they travel east to reclaim the kingdom of Erebor. The presence of giant spiders and vicious woodland elves result in some thrilling action scenes, but these perils are nothing compared to what awaits the group when they finally reach the Lonely Mountain. Finally at their destination - the home of the terrifying dragon Smaug, their courage and friendship is put to the test.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
