Synopsis

The story covers 12 years in the life of an American family: beginning in 2002, 6-year-old Mason, his 8-year-old sister Samantha, and their divorced mother Olivia, live in a small town in Texas. The following year Olivia moves them to Houston in order to study at the university so that she can give them all a better life. The following year, Mason and Samantha’s estranged father, Mason Sr., visits and vows to become a more constant part of their lives. Over the next decade Olivia will fall in and out of love while Mason will develop from childhood through to adolescent, graduating school, starting work, finding new hobbies, and getting his first girlfriend. Shot over 12 years, ‘Boyhood’ is an ambitious coming-of-age drama from director Richard Linklater which touches upon a wide range of issues including family, education, domestic abuse, addiction, and identity.
