Two young, very different Japanese families - one comfortably middle-class and rather formal, the other more outgoing but struggling financially - have their lives forever disrupted when they discover that their six-year-old boys were switched at birth. The hospital suggests they all get to know one another and gradually prepare to exchange the two children over time – as is the will of the law. But the opposing parenting styles and contrasting personalities of the children inevitably create conflict. Quiet and tender, heartbreaking and often extremely funny, the film emerges as a beautiful exploration of familial love, in all its disparate forms.
Contains one use of strong language and infrequent mild sex references
