Synopsis

As is increasingly common with major franchises, the final book in The Hunger Games saga has been split into two films. Although arguably stretching the story, this does allow time to concentrate more on the characters and explore some of the story’s subtler themes, largely leaving the action for the final film. In this installment, Katniss is in the newly discovered District 13, where a rebellion is brewing against the Capitol and President Snow, with Katniss earmarked as its poster girl. She must also fight to rescue Peeta, captured and tortured at the climax of the previous film. The Hunger Games continues to use its blockbuster platform and social resonance to explore themes around gender and politics, with its iconic heroine always the heart (and muscle) of the story. A procession of iconic character actors queue up to lend sturdy support.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
