8 March marks International Women's Day, a global celebration of the incredible achievements of women throughout history. The 2023 theme is #EmbraceEquity - a call for collective activism to drive change and create a fair and just world for women. This collective activism is required not just by women, but every single person in society; and not only on the 8 March, but year-round.
Below we have a selection of films, film lists, articles, film guides and other resources - including our popular International Women's Day assembly resources (7-11 and 11-16) - that highlight strong female characters and important female voices in the film industry.
This year, we've also launched a curated selection of films, resources and exclusive additional content for International Women's Day, all available on our free* streaming service, Into Film+. Storytelling is a significant form of activism that can spark passion and a desire to create change, and we hope the collection can do just that. It includes a wide collection of thought-provoking films - from stories of large-scale historical movements seen in Suffragette, to unpicking female representation in teen films such as Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You. Documentary films in particular, such as He Named Me Malala and I Am Greta, can transform lives by raising awareness, creating access to parliamentary lobbying, and inspiring both local and global sustainable change. Into Film+ is the UK's first free* streaming service dedicated to film and designed for all school settings.
