Winner of the 2007 Oscar for best original song, this contemporary musical is an Irish-set charmer where the music is integrated into the story so that the tunes may feel more organic than in the traditional Hollywood style. Here, "Guy" is a Dublin busker, and "Girl" is a Czech immigrant - and although the pair might not speak one another's language, they have music for their relationship to unfold through. The results are enthralling - and show how new life can be breathed into a familiar genre.
A motley assortment of musicians is united by a young man's vision of bringing soul music to Dublin in this against-the-odds comedy.
