This first-time feature from filmmaker Desiree Akhavan sees her write, direct and star in an anti-coming-of-age drama, based semi-autobiographically on her own experiences. The film follows likeable, relatable protagonist Shirin as she continues to blunder her way through life. After breaking up with her girlfriend – their relationship a secret to Shirin’s parents – she attempts to make sense of her life and the future which awaits her. This involves juggling various identities relating to sexuality, career, age and family as a bisexual Persian based in Brooklyn, New York.
Very strong language, strong sex, sex references, drug use.
