Facing foreclosure on their family ranch in Texas where oil has recently been discovered, divorced father Toby and his tempestuous ex-con brother Tanner set out on a mission to rob several branches of the same bank. Trying to track them down is gruff ranger Marcus, staring down the barrel of retirement, as much as he hates the prospect. For the brothers, they are simply taking back from the bank what they see as being rightfully theirs, but law-enforcement has other ideas, setting the stage for a classic western showdown where not everybody gets to ride off into the sunset. Combining contemporary relevance with taut, gripping storytelling and compelling performances, this is a riveting – albeit violent – updating of the iconic genre.
Terrifically acted and beautifully shot Western re-make with the distinctive deadpan humour of the Coen Brothers.
