With schools back in session for a new academic year, were excited to highlight eight upcoming new releases that are set to hit cinemas over the coming Autumn months. As ever, there's something for everybody, no matter your age or tastes, and we cant wait for you to see them!
Wind River
Released: 8 September
Age rating: 15 (16+)
The directorial debut of Taylor Sheridan, writer of Academy Award Best Picture nominee Hell or High Water, Wind River is a murder-mystery thriller, receiving great reviews. Starring Jeremy Renner (The Town) and Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), the story sees an FBI agent teaming up with a resident of a Wyoming town to uncover the truth behind the murder of an 18-year-old woman, whose body is found on a Native American reservation.
Blade Runner 2049
Released: 6 October
Age rating: TBC - expected 15 (14+)
The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott's seminal sci-fi classic sees the return of android-hunting Rick Deckard, played by a grizzly Harrison Ford. This time, though, Deckard is the one being preyed upon, as Ryan Gosling's Agent K seeks out the old 'blade runner'. With the plot still mostly under wraps, the trailer suggests a dark secret being unearthed amid a series of gloriously rich landscapes, shot by acclaimed British cinematographer Roger Deakins. Helmed by Denis Villeneuve, who brought us a modern sci-fi classic in 2016's Arrival, this one could be something special.
The LEGO® NINJAGO Movie
Released: 13 October
Age rating: TBC - expected U (5+)
The third movie in the LEGO® franchise, after the original LEGO® Movie from 2014 and The LEGO® Batman Movie earlier this year, this instalment sees the franchise explore the world of the NINJAGO, a franchise originally brought to life through games and TV shows. Six teenagers-turned-ninjas, each represented by their own unique element, from ice to lightning, must defend their home against a powerful villain, all told in the typically hilarious and frenzied fashion of the previous LEGO® films.
Call Me By Your Name
Released: 27 October
Age rating: 15 (16+)
Following firmly in the steps of Academy Award Best Picture winner Moonlight - and arriving just a couple of months after British hit God's Own Country - is another tender LGBT centred romance. Based on the novel by André Aciman, Call Me By Your Name is a gorgeously slow-burning coming-of-age story set across a scorching Italian summer, in which precocious 17-year-old Elio falls in love with an American scholar working at his family's home.
Murder on the Orient Express
Released: 3 November
Age rating: TBC - expected 12A (11+)
Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as the renowned Hercule Poirot - self-described as "probably the greatest detective in the world" - in this updated version of Agatha Christie's literary masterpiece. A superb ensemble cast has been assembled, from recent breakout stars (Daisy Ridley, Josh Gad) to seasoned veterans (Dame Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer), as well as the likes of Olivia Colman, Penélope Cruz and Johnny Depp. And with a murder taking place on their train journey, each and every one of them is a suspect!
Paddington 2
Released: 10 November
Age rating: TBC - expected PG (7+)
The much-loved Peruvian bear returns for a second big screen outing, after critics and audiences alike raved over his cinematic debut back in 2014. Voiced by Ben Whishaw, and with all the other members of the Brown family returning, the series has now added the likes of Brendan Gleeson and Hugh Grant as baddies. Young and old alike sure to be charmed by Paddington's latest hijinks as he attempts to track down the thief who stole Aunt Lucy's birthday present.
Battle of the Sexes
Released: 24 November
Age rating: TBC - expected 12A (11+)
The most watched tennis match in television history is the subject of this high-stakes comedy-drama, with female player Billie Jean King taking up Bobby Riggs' challenge after his wild claim - seemingly a PR stunt - that no woman could beat him on the tennis court. Emma Stone and Steve Carell play the two feisty sports stars, reuniting six years after appearing in charming rom-com Crazy, Stupid, Love together. And with equality and equal pay a pertinent issue in both the film and sports worlds, Battle of the Sexes couldn't be more topical.
Ferdinand
Released: 16 December
Age rating: TBC - expected U (5+)
For primary-aged children seeking a pre-Christmas animation to enjoy during the winter holidays, look no further than Ferdinand. Voiced by wrestler-turned-actor John Cena, Ferdinand is a big bull with a bigger heart. But when he's mistaken for a dangerous beast and torn away from his family, he assembles a misfit team to help him find his way home. This comedic Spanish adventure is based on the children's book The Story of Ferdinand and comes from the same animation studio that created Ice Age and Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie.
Many of these titles will also all feature in this year's Into Film Festival programme. This year's Festival runs 8 - 24 November 2017, and bookings go live on 7 September, with 24 hour priority booking for club leaders on Wednesday 6 September.
