A family of Jehovah’s Witnesses living in Oldham, Greater Manchester are thrown into turmoil when the eldest daughter, Luisa, begins to question their religion. The story is told through the perspective of Luisa's younger sister, Alex, who is devoted to God but starts reflecting on the meaning of His love as she turns eighteen and a series of unexpected events take place. Their mother, Ivanna, is a stern woman who is desperately trying to keep the family together in the face of their often hostile and controlling community. This is a nuanced and absorbing look at Jehovah’s Witnesses from a director who was a former member of the group, and which explores its ethics and the impact religions can have on relationships and identity.
