Synopsis

Amidst air strikes and bombings in Syria, a group of doctors in Ghouta work tirelessly treating casualties in an underground hospital ran by entirely by women. Filmed between 2016 and 2018 by Syrian native Feras Fayyad, the film looks at the sexism the doctors face while dealing with distressing injuries. The film particularly follows the inspiring young Dr. Amani, a pediatrician and the hospital’s manager, who remains positive and a friendly face to patients in terrifying circumstances. The film gives access to the vast effects of war on the lives of regular citizens, emphasising the human cost of violence.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
