Synopsis

Like a number of his classmates, teenager Joe doesn’t enjoy or excel in an exam environment. An internal monologue expresses his frustrations with this element of the education system, which suits some students and not others. Using an analogy of asking six different animals to climb a tree, Joe demonstrates that a one-size-fits-all approach may not be the best or fairest method of assessing the talents and potential of future generations. This short film is a hybrid of live-action and animation, using a poetry structure in the voiceover, and is useful for starting conversations around the pertinent topic of exams.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
