Synopsis

Film critic Rhianna Dhillon argues that Disney’s animated villains are far more interesting than their heroic counterparts. From their dazzling features to the flamboyant costumes they wear, villains such as The Little Mermaid’s Ursula, Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent, and Hercules’ Hades are visually enchanting. With wicked personalities and powerful songs, there’s also a case to be made that these characters are actually misunderstood and have only turned villainous because society has left them unwanted and ostracised.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
