Synopsis

A child’s bedroom should be a sanctuary for play, self-expression and feeling safe, but to Gustavo, a young transgender child in Brazil, it feels like scary things from the outside world are trying to barge their way in. But then from the bedroom mirror comes the friendly voice of Helena, whose bedroom full of bright clothes and toys is just on the other side of the reflective glass. Gustavo is magically transported into Helena’s alternative reality, a welcoming space where they can safely and joyfully be themselves. This sweet Portuguese-language animation offers a gentle and accessible exploration of friendship, family and LGBTQ+ issues for young audiences.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
