In the year 79 A.D, the Mount Vesuvius’ eruption destroyed the town of Pompeii at the height of the Roman empire, killing thousands. Now an archaeological site, there is still far more to uncover, and a group of forensic experts embark on a project to build a bigger picture as to why some of the Pompeii citizens failed to escape the disaster. Investigating the largest group of victims preserved in plaster cast, known as ‘the fugitives’, forensics uncover specific injuries suffered, the ages and possible disabilities of the victims and even artefacts that shed light on the individuals’ home and social life. This documentary is an engaging introduction to a time period and historical event whilst also offering valuable insight into careers in archaeology, history and forensics.
