Synopsis

Ember Lumen is a fire element with a blazing temper whose family have moved to Element City, where they face hardship and prejudice from other elements. They set up a convenience store called The Fireplace that Ember’s father plans to hand down to her once he retires but, one day, Ember accidentally causes a water pipe to burst in the basement of the store. After Wade Ripple, a water element, arrives to fix it, chaos ensues, and the two elements find themselves spending the day together in at attempt to save The Fireplace from being closed down. During their journey around the city, they discover that, despite their differences, they make an incredible team, causing them to slowly but surely fall in love. But with so many obstacles in their way, will they ever find the space to be together? This gorgeously realised love story also gently touches upon themes of immigration and the difficulties of assimilation, showing audiences that society can succeed through understanding and collaboration.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
