Synopsis

Set in the 1940s before the arrival of television in rural Italy, this delightful film centres on the local picture house in a tiny village in Sicily, and the character of Salvatore - a lonely little boy in thrall to the movies, fascinated both by the visions on the screen and the projectionist who makes them possible, Alfredo. Featuring dozens of clips from classic movies, Cinema Paradiso is a warm and nostalgic love letter to cinema itself.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
