In this 1930s British classic, an ageing headmaster and professor reflects on his almost 60-year career at a boys' boarding school. Charles "Mr Chips" Chipping is so loveable and his teaching establishment so quaint that you might be amazed such people and places actually existed. The gentle drama paints a detailed life portrait, going from Chipping's unpromising beginnings as an insecure new staff member to his transformation into a pupils' favourite, and finally his twilight years. The result is an entertaining and sentimental snapshot of a bygone era.
This Powell and Pressburger classic is the wittily dramatic life story of a befuddled old soldier told in flashback.
