This wittily dramatic tale of Clive Candy, an old, befuddled soldier, is told in flashback from when he was a dashing young officer in the Boer War until his present "blimpish" state in the Home Guard during World War II. Though in many ways a figure of fun whose character is a satire on outmoded, stuck-in-the-mud Britishness, Candy also symbolises humanity and decency, seen through his various romances and a lasting friendship with a German soldier - something seen as very controversial at the time the film was made.
This film has a couple of uses of mild bad language.
