Synopsis

In this iconic French-language coming-of-age film, Antoine is just a cheeky yet vulnerable young teenager who is misunderstood by his parents and seems to be constantly in trouble at school. After the umpteenth punishment, he runs away from home and turns to petty crime. But the dingy streets of Paris also offer entertainment, friendship and refuge,  where he can forget about his daily problems. Freedom doesn’t last long however, and Antoine is faced with harsh realities and a murky future, which nevertheless never quite dampen his spirit. This directorial debut by François Truffaut, whose own troubled childhood inspired the film, is regarded as one of the cornerstones of the French New Wave film movement.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
