Synopsis

When politicians and leaders make world-changing decisions, it's almost always ordinary people who have to bear the brunt of their effects. That's the message at the heart of Earth, a superbly-made and thought-provoking look at the fates of several different families in 1947 once it's announced that the British are to leave India, and declare the country independent while also creating modern Pakistan. While millions of Indians had wanted independence for many years, the sudden British decision to withdraw over a period of just a few months and create a new country as it did so was one that left people ill-prepared to adapt - and brought chaos in its wake...
