Synopsis

In this animated tale, Charlie is a likeable but feckless dog who, after being killed by a former buddy, finds himself at the pearly gates simply because "all dogs go to heaven." Wanting revenge, Charlie is told he can return to earth - but this time he'll only be able to get back to heaven by proving himself worthy of it. Burt Reynolds voices Charlie with roguish charm, and the film is expertly directed by Don Bluth, formerly of Disney, creating something darker and more complex than you might expect.
