Barrister Archibald Leach is quintessentially British - a repressed, straight-laced chap who is shaken out of his complacency when he becomes embroiled in the ever more farcical shenanigans of a motley group of criminals, including a beautiful con-woman. Veteran director Charles Crichton employs his experience to great comic effect, while Kevin Kline deservedly won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the demented weapons man Otto.
Comedy in which a nice guy, fed up with getting constantly outwitted, goes to a school which teaches him unfair and cunning life tactics.
