American director Robert Altman was known for his large ensemble casts and interwoven narratives. This film is a murder mystery set in 1930s England. Altman still has a big, all-star cast at hand, but here he uses his outsider's eye to examine life upstairs and downstairs in a grand country house, amongst the attendees of an elitist shooting party and the servants attending to their every need. There's a whodunnit element as a murder brings about a police investigation, but the case also reveals all the intrigue, jealousy and secrets that unite everybody in the house in surprising ways.
Contains strong language and one moderate sex scene.
