A scintillating mix of film noir and melodrama, Mildred Pierce is one of the true classics of the 1940s. Joan Crawford gives an Oscar winning turn as a housewife who splits from her husband and sets herself up as a successful restaurateur in order to provide luxuries for the daughter who she idolises. But when the pair clash over the love of a dashing playboy, tragedy ensues. Told in flashback and distinguished by its brilliant camerawork, the film says a lot about the male dominated society in which Mildred lived - as well as simply being flat-out great entertainment.
This film contains mild violence and sexual references.
