Synopsis

This fine domestic drama with supernatural undertones takes as its starting point an old friend named Harry Mention coming calling on a black middle-class family living in South Central Los Angeles. At first, the family welcome Harry into their home, won over by his easy charm and impeccable manners, but soon, they find that his presence seems to be ruining their once-happy life together, throwing up dark secrets and creating discord. This is a darkly absorbing story that draws on old folklore, featuring a great performance from Danny Glover as the mysterious Harry, and with a blistering jazz, blues and gospel soundtrack.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
