With films such as Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke, Japan's premiere creators of anime, Studio Ghibli, are best known for their richly detailed fantasy epics. My Neighbours The Yamadas, though, makes a break with this tradition in its comic portrayal of the trials and tribulations of an (maybe not so) ordinary family - think a Japanese Simpsons - but there's still plenty of Ghibli magic here. Based on a popular comic strip by Hisaichi Ishii, we follow the adventures of wry, long-suffering mum Matsuko, her nice but dull husband Takashi, and their wayward kids Noboru and Nonoko as they squabble and wisecrack their way through modern Tokyo life.
This film has a couple of uses of mild bad language and mild sex references.
