Two escaped prisoners from a chain gang must learn to co-operate to survive in this landmark, Oscar-winning racial drama. White racist Joker Jackson is shackled to fellow convict Noah Cullen, a black man with no love for bigots. On the run together, still chained, it seems they might kill each other rather than get along. But their will to survive is more than skin deep, and when things get tougher, they begin to see each other in a new light.
In the US south in the 60s, just after the passing of the Civil Rights Act, a black police officer is arrested for a prominent white citizen's murder.
