Find out everything you need to know about starting an Into Film Club.
As the film industry approaches awards season, here at Into Film we have started to look back at some of our own film highlights in 2019. This year has seen a surge in independent productions, both from the UK and worldwide, as well as a rise in documentaries exploring urgent topics like the environment and world politics, and there have also been a number of wonderful animations, perfect for the lead-up to Christmas.
Here are our curation team's top picks of the year for young audiences.
2019 was a wonderful year for environmental documentaries made for young audiences, and none were more captivating than this inspiring story of a Californian couple's efforts to create an entirely sustainable farm on formerly barren land. Chronicling the enormous highs and lows of the project, from natural disasters to misbehaving pigs, the film opens up our complex ecosystem in hugely entertaining and accessible ways, never sugar-coating the reality of nature, but also taking great joy in celebrating its power and beauty.
Yorgos Lanthimos reinvented ideas about the period drama genre and imbued his unique, trademark style all over this tragi-comic interpretation of Queen Anne's reign.
The Last Tree is one of the highlights of British film this year. Director Shola Amoo touches on his own personal story in this visually beautiful account of a young Black boy growing up in inner city London, gently exploring the difficulties experienced by first generation immigrants.
This film could have been an absolute disaster but the witty script, catchy songs and a fantastic central performance turn it into a delightful experience for all ages. The charismatic and talented Isabela Merced, who plays Dora, is one to watch for the future.
