We are very excited to present a season of free screenings at BFI Film Audience Network venues around the country, with the screenings taking inspiration from the BFI FAN's Screen Heritage 'Changing Times: Shifting Ground' programme

Taking place across February and March 2020, the season has been curated to include a broad and accessible collection of contemporary films that encompass many of the key issues that young people today associate with the theme of 'changing times'. This may include catastrophic changes to the environment; rapid technological advancement; unstable political climates, both nationally and internationally; evolving attitudes around gender, sexuality and representation; as well as the more grounded, every-day changes that come with moving home, starting a new school or coming of age.

The season has also been designed to encompass key calendar dates around this period. For LGBT History Month audiences can look to the inspiring documentary Coming Out, or landmark Kenyan film Rafiki. Screenings of He Named Me Malala will help to celebrate International Women's Day, and Science Week is represented through the likes of Big Hero 6SearchingReady Player One and Eighth Grade. Other highlights of the programme include the landmark Spike Lee drama Do The Right Thing; inspiring eco-documentary 2040, student-led activist documentary Your Turn, and charming drama The Peanut Butter Falcon.

All of the screenings will be preceded by a short compilation of archive film on the theme of climate change, commissioned specially for this season, and designed to encourage young audiences to take part in the 'conservation conversation'. The compilation edit is provided by Yorkshire Film Archive.

Each film is also accompanied with a downloadable film discussion guide, designed to assist you in engaging students with the themes and topics of the film after your cinema visit, and many of the screenings will also feature post-screening discussions with a range of special guests to be announced.

The best films inspire and contribute to the conversations of the day, and all of the titles selected for this season do just that, in ways that are accessible, engaging, provocative, and hugely entertaining. From iconic blockbusters and timeless animations, to non-fiction films from around the world, these films all speak to the urgent topics of our times.
