November was packed with research news, with updated benchmarks from Gatsby Foundation, Sutton Trust's A Class Act on social mobility in the creative industries, and Careers and Enterprise Company sharing the views of 234,000 young people in Student Career Readiness. Just like many careers professionals, we are now busy tweaking and adapting our offer to ensure it continues to meet the needs of young people from across the UK, whatever their background, along with your needs as educators and careers professionals.
If you're new to Into Film, all you need to access our free resources is an Into Film Account. Don't worry, it's completely free and only takes a moment to set up.
To celebrate the release of Wicked - only in cinemas now - don't miss out on our free careers-focused learning sequences for learners aged 12-18. Created with Universal Pictures, these activities illuminate careers in the screen industries by spotlighting the real trainees who helped bring Wicked to life on the big screen.
Challenge your students to apply their knowledge of social media in our Marketing Wiz competition where they'll create an exciting post to promote the film. The winner will receive an iPad and Apple Pencil Pro, plus a private screening of Wicked for their whole class! Enter ahead of the closing date of Friday 20 December.
As a proud partner of Discover! Creative Careers Week (18-22 November), we highlighted a variety of lesson resources, online courses, and pathways into careers in the screen industry. With skills shortages across numerous roles and a growing number of opportunities across the UK, educators and careers professionals can access a wealth of resources to provide ongoing career support all year-round.
As part of the Into Film Festival, we had the honour of welcoming our Into Film Careers Patron, multi award-winning screenwriter and director Amma Asante MBE, for a career retrospective, covering her trailblazing achievements in the screen industries.
Asante emphasised the importance of diversity, noting how her work has challenged traditional narratives and genres. Addressing aspiring young filmmakers, Asante stressed the value of persistence and self-belief and inspired students to seize opportunities and share vital stories: "It is an entirely different world for you guys than it was for me... Doors that were not open for me, are absolutely open to you."
Additionally, we were also delighted to have award-winning British director Andrea Arnold join us at the Into Film Festival for a special screening her new film Bird and a rare Q&A session with young audiences. Arnold shared insights into her creative process, her approach to storytelling, and offered advice for aspiring young filmmakers. She commented, "A lot of creativity is about you working out your own stuff, your own life; how you see the world, and how you've experienced the world." The session, held at the BFI Southbank, captivated a room of young filmmakers eager to learn from her experiences.
If you're new to Into Film, we have a whole host of careers resources to help you get started. Alongside our brand-new screen careers resources, our extensive back catalogue offers everything you'll need to help your students understand and explore the screen industries.
