Into Film Clubs
Find out everything you need to know about starting an Into Film Club.
Newly reopened cinemas have begun to prepare for the summer and last week's storm of releases, with something for every age group, carries over to this week. Added to the mix is a bright, modern romantic comedy from Australia for older teenagers whilst we also highlight our new film guides for educators to utilise around the country.
Safety is of course at the forefront of everyone's mind right now so make sure to check out the specific guidelines for your local cinema before visiting. Meanwhile, many cinemas have used lockdown as an opportunity to improve and renovate their venues so that we can all enjoy the best possible cinema experience.
Both a celebration of young, queer love and a wacky, spiritual comedy, Ellie & Abbie (& Ellie's Dead Aunt) arrives from Australia with a bang. Ellie is a bookish and mild-mannered 17-year-old who is obsessed with her long-time crush Abbie and is trying to build up the courage to invite her to the school dance. When she is finally ready to take the leap and come out to her mother she is suddenly visited by the ghost of her dead Aunt, a queer woman who has arrived to help her navigate her life as a young lesbian. Tender and clever in its exploration of sexuality and womanhood, this film knows how to get a laugh from its audience.
Our film guides are built to aid educators in the classroom or at home, using a framework of discussion points and activities for young people to consider films in new and invigorating ways. Lilo & Stitch and Despicable Me 3 are both riotous animations from different generations whilst A Street Cat Named Bob is an excellent and engaging way to get young people invested in the growing issue of homelessness in the United Kingdom.
Our top picks from each week's new cinema and DVD releases, all in one handy place....
