We're thrilled to announce the final three nominees for the 2019 Into Film Awards. They're nominated for a new and important category - the ICAP Charity Day Award - which supports youth mental wellbeing through film and filmmaking.
Into Film was one of the fortunate charities chosen for ICAP Charity Day 2017, and with the funds raised that day - with the help of celebrity supporters including Bill Nighy, Gemma Arterton and Ronan Keating - we were able to finance The Moving Minds Filmmaking Project, a peer-to-peer filmmaking programme of short films made in response to the growing number of young people experiencing mental health challenges.
The project gave 200 young people aged 11-19 across London and the South East the chance to work with professional filmmakers to devise and create their own short films, giving them a voice on an aspect of mental wellbeing that they thought was significant. Of the 19 films created on the Moving Minds project, three have been nominated for the special ICAP Charity Day Award at the 2019 Into Film Awards.

Behind the Mask - Luton CAMHS Summer Film Project

We follow a day in the life of Taylor, a young adolescent who suffers from mental health issues. Using a mask to conceal her inner emotions, we see her journey through a day of experiences that trigger her social anxiety, eventually leading to her breaking down to her parents and wishing to seek professional help.
We wanted to highlight what the daily triggers could be for a young person living with social anxiety so that people are more aware of the difficulties they may face. We really hope that it will help to reduce the stigma around mental health and that people will be more willing to talk about it.

A young woman longs to connect with people and form friendships, but she is isolated and scared. She finds the courage to step outside only to be overwhelmed by the noise and bustle of modern living. Can she find friendship and belonging in this uncaring world?
We are extremely proud of our film and thrilled that it has been nominated for the Into Film Awards. We hope that we can bring it to a wider audience so that anyone who feels isolated or who has difficulties with going out and being with other people can relate to our story and feel that they are not alone.

A Voice Too Small - New Rickstones Academy

How can a young person deal with bullying when they have a monster battling for control? In the forest of the mind, the monster of negativity looms large. A little voice of self-esteem can be heard, but will this creature grow large enough to overcome?
All too often, one problem young people face is knowing how to deal with their worries and our students chose to send a powerful message about seeking support from others. For us, the project has become our own voice in supporting young people who face emotional challenges and we are delighted that our film will contribute to raising awareness of mental health.
