Mental wellbeing is an extremely important issue with young people, and film can be a wonderful tool for helping them explore their feelings and broach difficult subjects. Thought-provoking films can allow young people to discuss the many difficult and complex issues associated with mental wellbeing in an accessible way. Using film can help develop emotional understanding and resilience, while the act of filmmaking itself can provide a powerful means of self-expression and creative outlet. Children's Mental Health Week (6-12 February 2023) is the perfect time to explore how film can benefit young people's mental wellbeing.
Below you can find details of all of our recent filmmaking projects across the UK addressing mental wellbeing, including our continued support from ICAP Charity Day for Moving Minds, our program of youth-made short films that tackle the subject of mental wellbeing. You can also check out news articles, film lists, resources and more on using film to approach mental wellbeing. You can also enrol now for our Mindfulness Through Film online training course.
In 2021, we launched a new comprehensive programme of curated films, resources and teacher tools supporting the mental wellbeing of pupils. Children and young people are currently experiencing unprecedented challenges to their mental health and wellbeing, and we hope this will help educators and Into Film Club leaders feel equipped to empower them to be seen and heard. The programme of curated mental wellbeing films and resources features exclusive filmed content from a range of sources including filmmakers and youth mental health professionals. It is all available for educators on Into Film+, the only free* and rights-compliant film streaming service for UK schools.
