'I'm the One' wins Best Film: 12-15

Congratulations to Eden from Powys, in Brecon, Wales, whose film I'm the One has won Best Film: 12-15 (Sponsored by Paramount Pictures) at the Into Film Awards 2020.

I'm the One - a previous Film of the Month winner back in November 2019 - is a poetic and impressively staged one-shot film in which the residents of one small town demonstrate that everyone has their story and their own issues to deal with. Watch the winning film above.

Eden, aged 15, is from Wales, and has received numerous nominations and awards throughout her life. She began acting at the age of seven and soon after began to record moving images of herself, family and friends. She soon discovered that although she loved acting, her real passion was in filmmaking. Growing into a prolific filmmaker, Eden wrote the script to her first short film aged 11 and completed the film aged 13. She has made six short films since then, including a promo for Many Tears Animal Rescue, a local animal rescue organisation.

Eden is also a young spokesperson for the Global CMTC-OVM Organisation, which supports people with rare skin disorders through diagnosis, advice and research. She travelled to Amsterdam last year to film the charity's annual global family event on their behalf. Eden has since been approached by another charity regarding becoming their youth ambassador, and hopes she is able make a difference to other peoples' lives through her filmmaking.

Remarkably, Eden is the first student in Wales to use film in their GCSE Photography course - a request Eden made under her own initiative and the examining board are now planning to use her work as an example for other students who may wish to follow suit in the future.

On her Into Film Award winning film I'm the One, Eden says "I have always been sensitive to others and often notice how people's behaviours can affect others - both positively as well as negatively. We can all be judgemental at times and I wanted to create a film that would encourage the audience to think about their actions and their thoughts behind them."

"I wanted to capture this film on one-take with a Steadicam, and that took a lot of practice, choreography and a team of patient actors! The choreography was difficult to get my head around at first. There was only one day and one time slot to shoot, so I spent months up at the location just practising and practising until I found the correct route. This was also the very first time I had used a Steadicam and it took a huge amount of practice! It was really just about repetition so that on the day I had confidence in myself and could transfer that to the rest of the team."

The Into Film Awards ceremony was due to take place in March 2020, with David Walliams as host, but was sadly unable to go ahead as planned due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, Walliams was still on hand to host our virtual ceremony, and you can see the moment he announced I'm the One as winner in the clip below.
