Into Film Clubs

We are delighted to introduce Into Film+ Playlists, an exciting and unique new feature for Into Film+, our free* streaming service for schools.
Our Playlists - assembled by expert members of our curation team - are comprised of carefully curated scenes and short highlights from feature films that illuminate a particular theme and help stimulate classroom discussion around that topic. Each one is designed to utilise Into Film+ streaming to help develop classroom-based learning through film in a straightforward, engaging, and fun way.
Each playlist will have a particular theme, and each selected highlight is accompanied by detailed textual notes and suggested questions or activities for wider conversation. The notes can be accessed by using the 'Read more' button on each highlight.
Our first Playlist explores the theme of Transition using highlights from films such as Paddington, Wonder and My Life as a Courgette, while in the coming weeks we will be developing Playlists on the themes of French Language in Film and Halloween, as well as a Film Studies playlist examining the role of Sound.
Note: You will need to be logged in and have access to the Into Film+ streaming service in order to view the Playlist page.
Into Film+ Playlists are designed for the selected highlights to be watched in sequential order, with a mini discussion after each one. However, they are also flexible, and you can choose to watch all the highlights in one go, or pick out one or two that are particularly relevant for you. We envisage that working through each Playlist in the classroom, with a short discussion after each highlight, will take no more than one hour.
It is not essential to have watched the full films before engaging with these playlists, although we would always encourage you to do so and hope that you will be inspired to go back and watch them in their entirety afterwards!
Transition can be a difficult experience at any time, particularly for young people. Instances of transition can include starting a new school, moving to a new home, or adjusting to wider changes in society. As children learn to adapt to new environments that may be significantly different to what they have previously experienced, many aspects of their lives are likely to be affected, such as socialising with friends and their mental health.
Film's power as a tool for empathy is more important than ever, and is ideal for exploring the theme of transition. Through film we see both representation and kindness, exploring characters that face hardships and how they persevere through them, whether on their own or with the help of others. In our Transition Playlist, we explore a wealth of characters, situations and stories that demonstrate anxiety around transition and associated issues, but which also show our universal ability to adapt to new surroundings and come out the other side as stronger and happier people.
You can also explore our traditional Film List on the theme of Transition, which suggests a number of full feature films you may wish to use to illustrate this topic.
We hope you will find our new Playlists engaging and rewarding.
To access Into Film+, you'll need an Into Film Account - it's completely free, and only takes a moment to set up. Into Film+ is free to use for all UK state schools that hold a valid Public Video Screening (PVS) Licence from Filmbankmedia.
Filmbankmedia PVS Licences are paid for on behalf of schools by all local authorities in England and by some local authorities in both Wales and Scotland. Into Film NI cover the license cost for some schools in Northern Ireland. For further information on licensing in your locality please see our FAQs.
If you don't have a PVS Licence, or aren't already covered, then a licence can easily be obtained from Filmbankmedia.
Filmbankmedia licenses and distributes film and TV entertainment to many groups and is the licensing authority we work with to ensure schools, libraries and youth groups have the permissions to screen films from our catalogue.
* Screenings for an entertainment or extra-curricular purpose require a PVS (Public Video Screening) Licence from Filmbankmedia. State-funded schools in England are covered by the PVS Licence.
Into Film and the Into Film+ streaming service is supported by the UK film industry through Cinema First and the BFI through National Lottery Funding, thanks to National Lottery players.
