The early, formative years of J.R.R. Tolkien are brought to life in this literary drama set in the midst of World War One. Piecing together the author's early relationships with university friends and the burgeoning romance with his muse and future wife Edith Bratt, this biopic fuses fantasy elements with the realistic horrors of war that led Tolkien to writing his fantasy allegory The Lord of the Rings - one of the most celebrated literary works of the 20th century that would later become a critically acclaimed box-office success.

For film clubs looking to delve deeper into the life and work of J.R.R. Tolkien, the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies are both available through the Into Film catalogue for our members.
